Lignum Geneva (formerly Rencontres Woodrise), Geneva’s organization dedicated to promoting forests and wood, is stepping up its awareness-raising efforts to encourage wider use of wood in the canton for reasons related to climate, the environment, energy, aesthetics, and well-being.
When, for example, will we see projects in the PAV that are significantly different from the Pont-Rouge Towers and their outdoor spaces?!
Over the past few days, Lignum-Geneva—represented by its vice president, Thomas Büchi, a master carpenter, and myself, the president—accompanied by three apprentices (in cabinetmaking, carpentry, and joinery), set out for the Upper Town to present a small memento (chairs made of Swiss wood-based cardboard bearing the message “Wood for the Future”) to each member of the State Council and the Administrative Council.
President Antonio Hodgers took the initiative to personally lead the distribution effort with his visitors in each department.
Mayor Alfonso Gomez Cruz, accompanied by his deputy mayor Christina Kitsos, also oversaw the distribution to his colleagues.
And the president of the Grand Council, Céline Zuber, representing the cantonal parliament, joined in, holding up a T-shirt and saying, “Working with wood is natural.”
This effort is essential to steer Geneva toward high-quality development and sustainable urbanization—goals championed by the state, the city, and the municipalities alike!
