June 5, 2026 – June 6, 2026

As a result of climate change, glaciers are melting faster than previously predicted.
Glaciologist Heïdi Sevestre takes us to the glaciers of Svalbard, and Luc Moreau to those of the Alps, to assess a situation that affects the entire world.

AT THE HEPIA IN GENEVA

June 5 at 6 p.m. – Lecture, screening & discussion
Thursday, May 21 through Thursday, June 11, 2026 – Exhibition

4 Rue de la Pairie, 1202 Geneva (Sr-Gervais / Grottes neighborhood, near the train station)

The dramatic melting of glaciers is the most obvious sign of climate change and its impact on the natural environment. The mountains are becoming unstable and shifting. The Mer de Glace, for example, has retreated by 800 to 900 meters since the year 2000 and has lost 150 meters in thickness. All glaciers in the Alps and around the world are facing the same fate. The consequences for biodiversity are extremely damaging. Coordinated by the European FEDRE Foundation and the Evian Water Cluster, this event is supported by the Cantonal Office for the Environment (OCEN), as well as CGC Energie and the Fiduciaire de la Corraterie.
