The 3rd Woodrise conference was held in Kyoto from October 15 to 17. The theme of this 3rd edition was “Wooden Buildings for Sustainable Development: From Tradition to the Future,” building on the success of previous editions (Bordeaux in 2017 and Quebec City in 2019). Since the health crisis prevented us from traveling to Japan, we are offering a series of webinars that will allow you to hear our experts provide feedback on three of the technical workshops offered.
The first webinar will take place on Tuesday, November 16, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
This webinar will focus on the findings of the technical workshop titled “Seismic Risk and Structural Resistance.” During this workshop, speakers presented the latest construction methods as well as the regulatory frameworks of their respective countries (Japan, the U.S., Canada, New Zealand), including new applications of CLT and “resilient” construction methods—that is, those that can be easily repaired after a disaster. We will also present work on the assessment of the structural health of historic buildings, the development of damping systems for high-rise buildings, and finally a major test scheduled for June 2022: a full-scale seismic test on a ten-story CLT building!
On the agenda:
Latest construction methods and regulatory context (Japan, USA, Canada, New Zealand);
Assessment of the structural health of historic structures;
Development of damping systems for high-rise buildings;
Presentation of a large-scale seismic test;
Q&A
Speaker: Thomas Catterou, Research Engineer in Mechanics/Wood Structure Dynamics, FCBA
This webinar will be followed by a presentation of the findings from the technical workshop on fire safety on Tuesday, November 30, at 11 a.m.
Followed by a presentation of the findings from the technical workshop on acoustics and vibration performance on Friday, December 10, at 11 a.m.
The webinars can be viewed here.
