While the IPCC, in its October 2018 report, sounds the alarm regarding global warming (at the current rate of warming, the 1.5°C threshold will be crossed between 2030 and 2052), and while in August 2019 the publication of an unprecedented new report on the state of the planet’s soils and how their exploitation is disrupting the climate, citizen movements are emerging around the world (a lawsuit filed in France against the government (pending), a lawsuit in the Netherlands against the government (won), climate protests in over 60 countries since late 2018), and also in Switzerland (the Swiss Climate Association’s Glacier Initiative, student climate strike in January 2019, complaint by senior citizens for the climate), now more than ever is the time to strengthen the citizen movements of the Transition that are coming together at the Alternatiba Léman festival.
Throughout the festival, all local initiatives that help mitigate climate change—offering concrete solutions to build a more inclusive and sustainable society—are showcased in public spaces and made accessible to everyone.
