The cities, cantons and the regions are the most capable of obtaining changes of behavior by sensitizing the populations and by giving practical answers of energy saving, favorable to the climate without decreasing the comfort standards.
Regional Energy Strategies

Greenhouse gases and energy supplies are global stakes. Many of innovating solutions arise from the level of the energy policies of the regions, the cantons and the cities. The most remarkable areas support local renewable resources, technological competences of their economic network, their schools and universities. They use their political and economic powers to push all actors to behave in a more adapted and responsible way.

Towards this direction, the Polytechnic schools of Lausanne and Zurich, encouraged by the Federal Office of Energy, develop the program «Novatlantis» which must lead us towards a 2000 watt society (currently 5500) by 2050, thanks in particular to savings and better energetic efficiency.

It is a true federal option being based on research and a sharp swiss engineering in this field. Switzerland will export neither gas nor oil, but perhaps know-how to consume less.

The programs of Basel and Zurich, area and city pilots of Novatlantis, will be commented on by Roland Stulz, engineer and director of Novatlantis. The Canton of Bern, for its part, wants to reach a 4000 watt society by 2035. On its side, Geneva is ambitious and aims at strongly decreasing its power consumption. SIG (Industrial Services of Geneva) puts this policy into practice and launches for that its program ECO 21.

The evidences given by the authorities and qualified organizations of these four areas of Switzerland open the tracks of the technical innovation and the changes necessary to protect the climate.
