Bulgarian Eco-Municipality 2012 – new steps towards environmental sustainability

The EU has identified environmental and climate priority issues. Our idea is to help prepare our society in the future be independent of fossil fuel and to use the waste as a resource in order to have a neutral level of CO2 emissions.

The "Bulgarian eco-municipality" Competition is created to promote excellence in energy efficiency, renewable energy and ecology of Bulgarian municipalities and to distinguish those who have made special efforts in this area. The initiative will help to promote the nominated projects, so that other Bulgarian municipalities to implement them. All projects will be included in a catalog with sustainable environmental solutions. The Prize "Bulgarian Eco-Municipality" in 2012 will be given in three categories:

• Energy Efficiency
• Renewable Energy Sources
• Waste Management

Organizers of the competition: Via Expo and partners (National Association of Municipalities in Bulgaria, Association of Municipal Environmental Experts in Bulgaria, Foundation for Local Government Reform, Bulgarian Association for Sustainable Energy.
